Carolyn Rohaly, talent manager at CBC, writes about her food heroes, Angela Liddon and her niece Chloe, and why she is donating in their honour to Community Food Centres Canada this holiday season.
Who is #myfoodhero?
I thought and thought about this, maybe making it a tougher question than it is, because health and nutrition have become very important in my life recently. I thought, "Who is responsible for this healthy focus in my life?" and came up with two food heroes.
My first food hero is Angela Liddon from ohsheglows.com. I've been a vegetarian since 1990, and have always wanted to be a vegan, but found it so difficult - until discovering Oh She Glows. Angela makes vegan eating easy and healthy. Thanks to her, I'm on my way to becoming Super Vegan and I feel great! This is one awesome lady who overcame an eating disorder to inspire so many people to eat well and be kind to animals.
My second food hero is my niece, Chloe. She's an unlikely food hero: she's autistic, with heightened senses of taste and smell. Generally, her preferred meals are squishy and sweet - and she's always telling me how much she hates vegetables! This vegan auntie is now on a quest to find a vegetable she'll eat. I really want her to eat healthy, so now Chloe inspires me to find the tastiest vegan recipes ever! Chloe is always game to try any food (even snails, bugs and octopus!), but with her heightened senses, she has a tough time eating. She inspires me to make the funnest, tastiest vegetables I can find!
And that's why Angela and Chloe are both my food heroes: Angela provides the recipes and Chloe provides the inspiration. That's why I will make a donation to Community Food Centres Canada in their honour.
Thanks to Carolyn for making a donation to the #myfoodhero campaign, which supports Community Food Centres Canada to offer empowering food programs that build better health, skills, and belonging in the communities that need it most. Join Carolyn by making a donation today!
